Vision
The Peer Career Educators Program will establish a culture of students helping students in their professional career and skill development.
MISSION
The mission of the Peer Career Educators Program is to support the personal and professional development of Queen’s students through professionally supported initiatives in educational assistance and outreach & promotion. Peer Career Educators connect students to information and services at Career Services, work with professional staff in designing and implementing programs and services, work on specific skill development one-to-one or in groups with Queen’s students, and be a form of on-campus outreach to classes and departments.
HISTORY
Queen’s Career Services’ Peer Career Educators Program was developed in the summer of 2007 by Jenny Lee, a SWEP student, initiated at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada in the fall of 2007, and is run by the Counselling Unit of Queen’s Career Services. 2007-2008 marks our inaugural year, and we are very excited to have twelve enthusiastic Peer Career Educators on board!
The program is delivered by Peer Career Educators who are students themselves, who provide information and resources to students, help with one-to-one skill development, and increase awareness on specific career related issues.
They will also be co-leading workshops with career counselors, as well as carrying out Promotion and Outreach activities and events (eg. making in-class presentations, manning public display booths with information).
As the Program develops and increases visibility, additional Peer Career Educators and in-house hours may be added, and responsibilities may become more in-depth and varied given the available resources, student demand, and the demonstrated capability of the Peer Career Educators.
